Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's military parents lived in Louisiana at the age of 9 years old. The singer won an audition competition by singing the song Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker was a resident of Georgia when she was fifteen years old. She was writing songs regularly as well as visiting Nashville in search of discounts. She was just 17 when she caught the ear of a representative of independent label Big Yellow Dog Records who began shopping her songs to various labels and artists. Decker signed a deal with Island/Def Jam after Mercury Records President David Massey passed her demos to L.A. Reid, head of Island/Def Jam. Then, in August of 2009 she launched her self-titled debut album under the name Jessie James. Jessie James was reasonably successful and included Wanted the single which climbed into the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker thought of herself to be a country musician in the past, was shocked to discover that the album was not marketed and made with an eye on the mass market. Decker was adamant with the label to get greater control over her music after two of her singles failed. Her subsequent album, Boys in the Summer is more country-oriented. The album of Decker, Daughter of a Gypsy (or Sweet American Dreams), was canceled by Mercury following two singles that failed to chart on the chart for country.
